"Eat a Chiquita" Song Samples & Lyrics
Listen (MP3)
I find myself standing in shadows of cold desperation
The Devil himself has arranged for my incarceration
We won't get a trial but we'll feel absolute tribulation
It's hotter than Hell and believe me it ain't no vacation
Carcel Modelo
They locked us away
Carcel Modelo
For sixty-eight days
Carcel Modelo
They shot down Jose
Carcel Modelo
It's too late to pray
Save all your paper, the bathroom's a bad situation
Even the roaches regard it with high reservation
A scream in the night puts an end to some rude altercation
Be careful you fool, they will stab you with no provocation
Carcel Modelo
They locked us away
Carcel Modelo
For sixty-eight days
Carcel Modelo
They shot down Jose
Carcel Modelo
It's too late to pray
My taste for iguana and snake is a new acquisition
Just breathing the air - gives me a bad disposition
I'm sleeping on concrete and not in my favorite position
The bugs and the rot, they are forcing me into submission
Carcel Modelo
They locked us away
Carcel Modelo
For sixty-eight days
Carcel Modelo
They shot down Jose
Carcel Modelo
It's too late to pray

Panama she call to me
Little girl across the sea
Softly, so seductively
She captures every part of me
In El Valle by the sea
Far, far away
Bonita sangria
Drink the night away
Party boat she sail tonight
To Taboga by moonlight
Jungle smoke is always red
You smoke a bat and go to bed
With a lady from David
Far, far away
Red marijuana
Listen what I say
Hey, Ma - don't tell Pa
Goin' down to Panama
One big Mardi Gras (best whores I ever saw)
Viva El Panama
In Colon they always say
Work tomorrow, not today
Through the night the jaguar cry
A lonely jungle lullaby
All the while we sleep and dream
Far, far away
Sueno hermoso
Dream our life away
Listen (MP3)
Take all your money and shove it up your nose.
It's our number one export that everybody blows.
The Bolivian Railroad, lay it on the line.
Give us all your money, we'll make you feel fine.
Snow on the mountain and powder on the floor,
Bolivian Railroad, you always want more,
Yeah, you always want more.
A tropical snow storm guaranteed to please.
When you ride on the railroad try not to sneeze.
Get a deviated septum, a free-base disease.
Cash in your heirlooms, score a couple keys.
We'll buy a crystal Cadillac with just another score.
Bolivian Railroad, you always want more,
Yeah, you always want more.
Give up your first-born, think about your stash.
Send a post card to Mama, "Please, send more cash!"
The conductor's a snowman ridin' on the train.
He'll freeze up your nose, make a popscicle brain.
Vaya con Dios or God, he'll get sore.
Bolivian Railroad, you always want more,
Yeah, you always want more.
Yeah, you always want more,
Yeah, you always want more.
Where's da money?
Listen (MP3)
Pray for our souls
For tonight we will die in the jungle
El Salvador rise
Let our people resound with a rumble.
Martyrdom waits for the brave
And the seekers of justice.
The eagle will speak
But guerrillas will fight the war.
See only today,
Tomorrow La Guardia take our life away.
We want our land or we'll fight,
It is one or the other.
Where are my friends and my God
Where's my long lost brother!
Is there no light
At the end of this long dark tunnel?
Forgive me, my Lord,
But I hate what I see around me
See only today
Tomorrow La Guardia take our life away,
See only today
Tomorrow La Guardia take our life away.
The Story Behind "Eat a Chiquita"

In 1970 I was at Fort Ord, California, preparing to go to Southeast Asia with the U.S. Army. Unfortunately, I was involved in a large drug bust involving Company grade officers and NCOs. My orders were revoked.
At that time I figured I was headed to Leavenworth, but influential friends managed to get the C.I.D. to lose my name. No charges were filed and new orders to Panama were issued.
My M.O.S. changed several times and I went up and down in rank (In fact the whole thing was rank!). I was attached to 8th Special Forces, worked in G-2 until they canceled a pending secret clearance, Headquarters Commandant, Quartermaster, A.G. Mail, 79th Army Band, etc.
I was AWOL a lot and got to see some interesting places, make love to some of the world's most beautiful women and get into a lot of trouble.
On the Island of Taboga, a friend and I were busted by La Guardia Nacional and thrown into a dungeon called Carcel Modelo. We were there for 68 long days under conditions that can only be described as miserable. (I have written a screenplay about Carcel called Panama Red. It's available for $25.00 - a good read!)
Eat a Chiquita is an album of songs depicting underground life in Latin America. The music is a blend of Latin, Rock and Jazz. Jimmy Carl Black of the Mothers of Invention lends his voice and humor to the work. World-renowned percussionist Airto performs his magic on two of the tunes.
Other notables are Smokey Joe Miller from Paul Ray and The Cobras (Stevie Ray Vaughn's old band), John Gagan from Ottmar Liebert, Roger Burton from The Bees' Knees, Kelly McNulty from Buster Brown as well as many other talented musicians and actors.
The tape takes the listener on a trip through the darker side of the cities, jungles and islands of Central America. In fact, I actually get shot by an El Salvadoran firing squad at the end of the album. (I know some of you will be pleased by this.)
So listen to the song snips and order a tape for your collection!
