You're probably asking yourself how I've been able to put up with the Captain all these years. Well, the answer is humor, humor and more humor. And a lot of patience! In fact, some have called me a goddess for living with this man for thirty years. Others have said I'm just as downright crazy as he is - or more so! You may judge for yourself . . .
One of my interests of is tattoos - particularly acquiring them. I didn't get my first tattoo until 1990. I'd wanted to forever but I was afraid I'd be allergic to the ink since I have so many other sensitivities. I decided "What the hell, I'll just give it a go and see what happens." We were living in Honolulu at the time so we strolled down to China Sea. After much deliberation I chose a bird of paradise to grace my left upper thigh. It's about four inches long and about three at the widest point. It seemed like it took forever for Scott to complete it. It seemed like it hurt a lot, too. I patiently waited the several hours for the bandage to come off. I lovingly applied bacitracin on a regular schedule. I was very pleased with my new tat and absolutely delighted that I had no allergic reaction. That meant I could get more! Yes!!!
My next tat was a small hibiscus over my right breast. This one was done only a couple of months later when we were living on Maui. Skin Deep in Lahaina was my shop of choice. That tat didn't hurt a bit and was finished before I even knew it. Well, by then I'd become addicted. I scheduled another appointment for a few weeks later and had a hummingbird poised over the hibiscus. I have a special affinity for hummingbirds. It was my nickname in high school eons ago. I was tagged such because I have a very small, very pointed nose. I was often accused of having had a nose job. I always indignantly replied that if I were to spend that kind of money I certainly wouldn't have chosen this nose!
But I digress. My next tat was a birthday gift to myself. It was done after we'd moved back to Santa Fe.
. . . to be continued . . .
